July is just around the corner, but there’s plenty of stuff in theaters and at home this weekend. This week, That Hashtag Show guides you through the new releases in cinemas and in theaters. Elio takes us to the stars and 28 Years Later might send you running along with a ton of viewing on the couch! Let’s get into what you can expect to watch this weekend.

28 Years Later – In Theaters Now

28 Years

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: A classic horror offering from the 2000s returns for a chilling new entry in the franchise after a long-layoff. (Hi, Final Destination Bloodlines!) There’s critical acclaim as far as the eye can see for 28 Years Later and audiences have been waiting an eternity (heck it feels like 28 years to be honest) for another entry in this one. That Hashtag Show really enjoyed this one and its an immediate ticket purchase in our book

Elio – In Theaters Now

Pixar is back! Elio takes us to the stars with an emotional tale about belonging. We expect beautiful animation from Pixar and that’s here in droves. THS’s Sarah Carey loved the emotions at play along with those stunning visuals. She wrote, “Visually, Elio is breathtaking. The scenes set in the Communiverse, a kind of interstellar Space UN, are particularly stunning. The rich, colorful world evokes the underwater beauty of The Abyss.”

Bride Hard – In Theaters Now

Simply put, this movie is the kind of idea that we should be making more of. Rebel Wilson is an action hero with a twist in Bride Hard. Simon West’s latest movie sees the actress as a secret agent who is great at that but terrible at being a best friend. Then, there’s a massive hostage crisis that threatens to derail her buddy’s wedding. Chaos ensues. If any of that sounds good, this is probably one for you!

The Waterfront – Streaming on Netflix

A winning formula returns on Netflix with some familiar faces. (Arrowverse fans rejoice at the sight of Melissa Benoist!) Kevin Williamson, a TV staple at this point, delivers a tale of a well-off family dealing with personal strife and a fishing business that’s taking on water in The Waterfront. Perfect for absorbing in a weekend at home!

The Gilded Age – Streaming on Max/HBO

Period drama fans, we are in business. 1800s New York’s favorite group of socialites returns for more drama this weekend. Julian Fellowes takes fans through Season 3 of The Gilded Age and there’s all the summer intrigue you would expect. People propose, there’s shady business deals, and of course the fashion is on-point! Phylicia Rashad and Bill Camp join for this season. If you’re a big fan of that melodrama, go ahead and circle this one for yourself.

We Were Liars – Streaming on Prime Video

Young Adult novel adaptations and summertime go together like peanut butter and jelly folks. We Were Liars is another massive entry in that literary genre. Prime Video’s new series sees Emily Alyn Lind trying to piece together why her memory went missing last year. It’s intense and has enough melodrama to keep the grown-ups watching! If you love those mystery novels and summer beach reads, pull up a folding chair.

Sirens – Streaming on Netflix

Sirens is the series that everyone’s been talking about. Julianne Moore and Milly Alcock are at the center of a big mystery and our main character is trying to get to the bottom of what’s going on. It’s a twisty-turn-y Netflix show. There’s a lot going on under the hood with this one and those early viewing numbers indicate that plenty of people you know will want to discuss. Take it to the group chat.
