This weekend’s box office was all about Marvel’s first family, as The Fantastic Four: First Steps exploded onto the scene with a massive debut. Meanwhile, Superman held strong in its second week, and long-running entries Jurassic World: Rebirth, F1: The Movie, and Smurfs continued to show staying power deeper into their respective runs.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps Claims The Throne

The Fantastic Four: First Steps stormed into first place with a staggering $118 million debut. After years of anticipation and false starts, Marvel’s first family finally hit the big screen with a version that’s landing with fans. Whether it’s the new cast, grounded tone, or sheer MCU hype, audiences showed up in droves. At the same time, it didn’t quite meet its tracking targets. Still, the strong opening sets a high bar; and now the question becomes whether it can maintain momentum.
Superman Flies Steady

In its second week, Superman brought in another $24.9 million. That’s a strong hold for a superhero film, especially given the stiff competition. With solid reviews and enthusiastic audience scores, the film is proving to be a hopeful and heroic step forward for DC’s cinematic future.
Jurassic World: Rebirth Continues to Chomp
Still stomping in its fourth week, Jurassic World: Rebirth earned $13 million over the weekend. The legacy sequel has demonstrated strong legs, thanks to nostalgia, dinosaurs, and a more grounded script than recent installments. It’s not dominating the conversation, but it’s quietly building an impressive run.
F1: The Movie Hits the Gas in Week Five
Now in its fifth week, F1: The Movie added $6.2 million to its box office haul. It may not have the flashiest numbers, but the film continues to drive steady interest from racing fans and adrenaline junkies. It’s the kind of mid-budget win Hollywood is desperate to see more of.
Smurfs Hold Onto a Top Five Spot
Bringing in $5.4 million in its second week, Smurfs rounded out the top five. The animated reboot is doing modest business, but it continues to offer families an accessible and colorful option during the crowded summer season. Its appeal might not be huge, but it’s blue enough to stick around a little longer.
Next Week’s Predictions
Box Office Outlook
Looking ahead, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is expected to maintain its top position. With strong buzz and the curiosity factor still high, the film should easily fend off the competition in its second weekend. The real question is how steep the drop-off will be; a 50% dip would still leave it comfortably in first place.
Two newcomers are hoping to make a dent in the top five: The Naked Gun and The Bad Guys 2. While tracking has The Naked Gun aiming for $20–30 million, expectations may be too high. As a reboot of a beloved but dated comedy franchise, it’s likely to struggle with modern audiences. I’m predicting a more modest $15 million debut, especially given comedy’s rough track record at the box office in recent years.
The Bad Guys 2, on the other hand, looks poised for a more successful launch. With tracking between $25–35 million and positive family appeal, a $30 million debut seems likely. The original film was a sleeper hit, and the sequel could benefit from strong word-of-mouth and limited competition in the animated space.
We’ll be back next week to see how it all shakes out!
