The 1990 film adaptation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a decidedly odd addition to the franchise. Mostly because it was one of the first live-action adaptations of the franchise. And one where the turtles are not CGI, but rather are puppet costumes akin to the larger Muppets. In fact, Jim Henson himself worked on those costumes just two months before he passed away, with him describing the turtle costumes as some of the most advanced that he ever worked with.
It’s really no surprise then that the film became a cult classic among TMNT fans. Especially since Fathom Events had just showed a screening (or rather, a re-screening) of that very 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film in theaters all across the US on August 15, 2025. All for the turtles’ 35th birthday to boot. In fact, that re-screening earned them $3.3 million USD in its opening week, with the numbers climbing ever higher even as we speak. In fact, it’s so successful that Fathom are extending its theatrical run to a 14-day engagement rather than the planned 1-week run. You can still watch it all the way to August 28, 2025; despite what the YouTube trailer says below:
It’s really no wonder then that we now get to the meat of the matter. After the theatrical success of their Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 35th anniversary, Fathom Events is proud to announce that they will also bring Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze to theaters. When, you might ask? Well, according to them: that sequel to the 1990 TMNT film will make its way there sometime in March 2026. That will still be quite the wait, so you might want to rewatch that first film before you watch this one in theaters.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze Coming Soon-ish to Theaters

Coincidentally, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze is very similar to its prequel, but in the opposite direction. It to received mixed reviews from critics, but this time for going into a more light-hearted direction than the first film’s unexpectedly dark tone. Why? Honestly, only director Michael Pressman and screenwriter Todd W. Langen knows. All we know is that this sequel may become just as much a cult classic as the first film. Maybe. Hopefully. Big green fingers crossed, everyone.
