Death can’t be stopped, and the Final Destination series can’t be stopped either. The newest film in the series Final Destination: Bloodlines was a smash hit at the box office earlier this year. The follow-up will be written by Lori Evans Taylor, the co-writer of Bloodlines. THR was the first with the news.
Final Destination: Bloodlines grossed over $286 million at the box office and was the most successful film in the franchise’s history. That movie was the sixth installment of the horror franchise and the first one since 2011. Taylor was a key writer on the film, which was co-written by Guy Busick with a story from Busick, Taylor, and Jon Watts (Spider-Man: Homecoming). Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein directed the film.
Franchise producers Craig Perry and Sheila Hannahan Taylor are back producing alongside Watts, his Wife, Dianne McGunigle, and Toby Emmerich. Warren Zilde will executive produce.
The Final Destination series had proven to be a huge hit for New Line Cinema with a concept that transfers exceptionally well from movie to movie. Each one focuses on a character that has a deadly premonition that something horrible is going to happen, and cheats death. Everyone knows you can’t cheat death, so they get their revenge one way or another.
It’s the third highest-grossing horror series for New Line Cinema at $939 million at the box office after The Conjuring at $2.3 billion and the It films at $1.2 billion.
Lori Evans Taylor has also written movies like The Edge Of Normal, Cellar Door, and Bed Rest. She also adapted I Am Still Alive for Universal, with Ben Affleck on board to star and produce.
