Mercy Trailer Shows Off Consequences of AI Justice System and Budget Production

Does anyone remember that 2025 adaptation of War of the Worlds? You know, the one where the entire film is basically Ice Cube staring at a screen for about 90 minutes? The one that critics absolutely panned because of how horrible it was? Yeah, the trailer for Mercy seems to show that this film is basically that, but with Chris Pratt instead. I have no idea why director Timur Bekmambetov thought this would be a great idea for a film. It didn’t work out the first time, and it really doesn’t look like it will do so here.
Not least of which because this trailer for Mercy shows that it can’t decide if it’s a serious action-thriller, or black comedy. The basic premise of someone needing to defend themselves to an AI judge (who is also the jury and executioner) in just 90 minutes is as bizarre as it is laughable. And with the main character being one of the main proponents of this AI judge before he came to this situation, it really comes across as him getting exactly what he deserves. Honestly, this seems like a movie where I’d laugh at throughout its run. Maybe you might too if you see it in theaters.
