It looks like the sequel to the biggest Prime Video premiere ever is in need of a new director. Guy Ritchie has exited as the director for Road House 2. The movie will still go into production this September, but now Amazon MGM Studios are looking for someone new to helm the picture. Will Beall is writing the script for Road House 2, but plot details remain under wraps. The first film starred Jake Gyllenhaal as Dalton in a remake of the classic ’80s film that starred Patrick Swayze. The new film is set to include some new faces, including Dave Bautista. We’ll have to see if a new director shakes things up from a creative standpoint.

The 2024 film followed Dalton as a former UFC fighter struggling to get by. He takes up work as the bouncer of a Florida Keys bar, finding himself roped into a world of outlaws, bikers, and a developer determined to build a lavish resort for the ultra-rich.

The movie broke records for Amazon MGM Studios and Prime Video. They announced a sequel last year during their Upfronts presentation. It launched in March 2024 and attracted nearly 80 million worldwide viewers in its first eight weeks, which was a record at the time.

Doug Liman directed the first film and didn’t return for the second partially because he feels like he wasn’t properly compensated for the release of Road House. It was originally intended to be a theatrical release, but then went straight to Prime Video.

It’s unknown why Guy Ritchie left the film.
