Lionsgate will reimagine the 1978 horror classic Magic, with genre legend Sam Raimi and veteran producer Roy Lee producing. The remake will bring William Goldman’s chilling tale of a troubled magician and his sinister ventriloquist dummy; to the screen for a new generation.
Chris Hammond and Tim Sullivan, longtime champions of the project, will produce alongside Raimi and Lee. Zainab Azizi of Raimi Productions also joins as a producer. With Paul Fishkin and Andrew Childs of Vertigo serving as executive producers.
Reimagining Magic
Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, the duo behind Raimi Productions’ upcoming survival horror thriller Send Help, will write the screenplay. Lionsgate worked with Hammond and Sullivan to bring together the rights holders of the original film. Paving the way for this remake. Meredith Wieck and Pavan Kalidindi will oversee the project for Lionsgate.

The original 1978 film starred Anthony Hopkins as Corky. A magician whose act with his ventriloquist dummy, Fats, spirals into psychological horror when he loses control of his creation. Directed by Richard Attenborough and adapted by William Goldman from his own novel. Magic became infamous for its unsettling TV ads, which warned audiences: “Magic is fun—we’re dead.”
