We’re surprisingly under a week away from The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’s opening day. Opening on Wednesday, April 1st, we’re about to jump up super high into a world of Nintendo magic once again; and it looks like it’ll be a trip worth taking. However little surprises have been stoking the hype fires as of late, such as Donald Glover’s Yoshi casting announcement. And while we don’t know who will be voicing the character of Fox McCloud, we now know that the lead of the Star Fox franchise is about to make his cinematic debut.
This beautiful surprise from Universal Pictures arrived through a pretty sweet promo poster. Yes, I know, you want to see the image. I kinda want to look at it again myself, so let’s do that now, shall we?

And they say that dreams don’t come true. Just as The Super Mario Bros. Movie introduced us to Seth Rogen’s Donkey Kong, we’re going to see yet another new Nintendo stalwart heading to the silver screen. Whether that makes Mr. McCloud a “silver fox,” I’ll leave that discussion up to you.
Though there is one more thing I want to discuss, before we all rush out the door to buy tickets. But before we move forward, this isn’t a negative point of order – just one that has me scratching my head with my controller a little harder than usual.
Why Was Star Fox Hidden From The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Marketing For So Long?
I have to admit, I think this is a slightly dirty move on Universal’s part. Let’s not forget, we’re just under a week before The Super Mario Galaxy Movie heads to theaters. To drop a surprise this big, through a poster, within that window of time, may be brilliant – as it plays with the streaming world’s style of last minute info blasts. At the same time, it’s kind of unfair, as sequel marketing campaigns usually thrive on making these sorts of announcements as early as possible.
Not to mention whoever happens to be voicing Star Fox is now going to have a ton of pressure on their shoulders to deliver on opening night. If people go in expecting Tom Cruise but walk out having heard Jimmy Fallon, that’s a bit of a buzz killer. I highly doubt either man is voicing the part, but if The Super Mario Galaxy Movie could give us a Nick Offerman voiced Fox, I’d be a very happy man. (Before anyone tries to correct me by saying, “But Mike, he’d be a better fit for Peppy,” save it. That’s the predictable move; and Mr. Offerman is anything but.)
Time marches on towards blast off, as Mario, Luigi, Peach and company will be soaring among the stars, only in theaters, on Wednesday April 1st. So just in case any new surprises crop up between here and then, you may want to keep a browser tuned to THS’ Movie News Archives.
