The new live-action Magic: The Gathering movie from Legendary and Hasbro has found its two writers. Deadline is reporting that Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald has been chosen to write the new movie. It was previously reported that Matt Johnson was the choice to direct the project in April, but it’s not a sure thing that his deal has gone through.

Magic: The Gathering is Hasbro’s first $1 billion brand, and it’s also the world’s first trading card game. There have been more than 50 million players worldwide since 1993. The game sees players play what amounts to a cross between poker and chess, where you have a randomized deck that you choose, but you play to the board like a game of chess. You can summon creatures, cast spells, activate artifacts, and control powerful Planeswalkers. The game has a deep and illustrious lore to bring to the big screen from its beginnings all the way until now.

The ongoing storyline has been expanded with other IP like Lord of the Rings, Doctor Who, Warhammer, and soon to be Marvel. The most recent set, MTG; Final Fantasy is already the highest-selling set of all time.

Who Are Noah Gardner And Aidan Fitzgerald?

Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald have had some tough luck in their screenwriting careers. They’ve previously worked with Hasbro on a Power Rangers film from Jonathan Entwistle, but that never got off the ground. They also wrote the script for an Aquaman spinoff called The Trench that was canceled when DC Studios went through their huge changes recently. They also have credits for The Patient with Maximum Effort and 20th Century Studios. Their most recent credit is for Trancers, which is directed by Leigh Whannell and coming to Prime Video.
