Callina Liang is about to get extraordinarily popular among Capcom fans. The actress has been chosen to play Chun-Li in the upcoming Street Fighter movie from Legendary. Deadline was the first with the news.
The film’s plot remains under wraps, but this isn’t the first high-profile role in the film to be cast. Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo, Jason Momoa, Roman Reigns, and Orville Peck are all also in the cast as various characters from the popular fighting game series. It’s directed by Bad Trip‘s Kitao Sakurai.
Chun-Li is one of the most popular characters from Street Fighter. She’s a skilled fighter/martial artist and Interpol officer who made her first appearance in Street Fighter II in 1991. The game series originally started in 1987 with Street Fighter and has continued to be one of the most popular for Capcom through various sequels and spinoff games like Marvel Vs. Capcom. The games usually center on a fighting tournament organized by M. Bison, the evil leader of Shadaloo. The series has sold over 55 million units worldwide, making it one of the most successful video game series of all-time.
