Jason Bourne has a new home, permanently. NBCUniversal announced today that it has acquired all rights, excluding publishing, to the popular Jason Bourne and Treadstone books from Robert Ludlum.
The studio announced the new deal to fortify the future of the Bourne franchise across NBCUniversal. It’ll pave the way for new installments for the character and his world across film and TV. The screen rights lapsed in March 2025 and since then, WME has been shopping the rights to various bidders, but NBCUniversal won out.
Here’s what Universal Pictures president Peter Cramer had to say in a statement.
“Since its debut in 2002, the iconic Bourne franchise has reshaped the spy genre with groundbreaking films that set new standards for cinematic action. We’re energized to continue expanding the Bourne universe into the future with exciting new stories for global audiences.”
Frank Marshall, the producer of the Bourne movies since the first one in 2002, will be on board to produce new installments of the film series. Here’s what Jeffrey Weiner, chairman and CEO of Captivate Entertainment and the executor of Ludlum’s estate had to say.
“We are thrilled that the Bourne franchise will remain at Universal. We look forward to working with the Universal team to expand the Bourne franchise across Universal’s varied platforms.”
What Movies Are In The Bourne Franchise?

The series started on the big screen with 2002’s The Bourne Identity. It catapulted Matt Damon as an action star and spawned two sequels with The Bourne Ultimatum and The Bourne Supremacy. Then came the Jeremy Renner starring The Bourne Legacy, but that didn’t include Damon. The latest film in the saga was Jason Bourne. There’s no word on if Damon would be returning as the character with this new deal.
