We saw the end of Tom Hardy’s stint as Venom in Venom: The Last Dance, but now it looks like the character is coming back in animated form. THR is reporting that Sony is making the next film for Eddie Brock and the Symbiote an animated one. The duo behind Final Destination: Bloodlines, Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, are directing the film as well as producing it. It is still unknown if the producing team of Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Matt Tolmach will produce the feature or not.

The other question is if Tom Hardy would return to the role in some capacity, and at this time, it’s also unknown if he’d come on as a producer or even return to voice Venom/Eddie Brock. There are no writers attached to the project currently. This is a very early in development project at Sony. But they’re getting a writer’s room together to take pitches on where the series should go from here.

Venom made his first appearance in 1988’s Amazing Spider-Man #300 and he hasn’t looked back, becoming one of the most popular characters in comic book history. His first solo series came in 1993 and then made his live-action debut in Spider-Man 3 played by Topher Grace.

The Sony series of movies started in 2018 with Venom and saw an insane $856 million at the box office over the course of its run. It was followed up by two sequels that saw smaller box office totals, but still made quite a large amount of money.

An animated movie has plenty of avenues that it can take, and also gives more freedom when it comes to showing things on screen. They previously did this with the Spider-Verse films that gave us two of the best Spider-Man stories ever.

We’ll keep you updated on all things Venom as we get more news.
