This weekend’s box office saw another shake-up, with returning champions holding strong while a new sequel managed to break into the top five. Genre juggernaut Weapons remained a dominant force in its sophomore outing, while Disney’s Freakier Friday also held well. Newcomer Nobody 2 landed in third, while Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps and The Bad Guys 2 rounded out the top five.
Weapons Stays Sharp in Week Two

At number one, Weapons earned $25 million in its second weekend. That’s a strong hold following its impressive debut, indicating solid word-of-mouth and repeat business among fans of the R-rated thriller. If it continues at this pace, the film could end up being quite profitable for Warner Bros. Discovery.
Freakier Friday Holds Its Ground
Disney’s Freakier Friday came in second with $14.5 million in its sophomore frame. While the drop from its debut was expected, the family-friendly film continues to play well with multigenerational audiences. With minimal competition in the coming weeks, it should enjoy a steady run at the box office before its Disney+ release.
Nobody 2 Breaks Into Top Three
The weekend’s big new release, Nobody 2, landed in third place with $9.3 million. While not a breakout success, the numbers fell in line with my earlier predictions. Like its predecessor, the sequel may find a longer life beyond theatres thanks to streaming and home release, but its theatrical run will likely remain modest.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps Stays Afloat
Marvel’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps dropped to fourth with $8.8 million in its fourth weekend. While its domestic numbers have cooled, the film’s global total continues to climb, ensuring it remains a profitable entry as Marvel gears up for Avengers: Doomsday.
The Bad Guys 2 Keeps Drawing Families
Rounding out the top five, The Bad Guys 2 took in $7.5 million in its third weekend. With few animated contenders currently in theatres, the sequel should have found a stronger footing at the box office; but it seems to be struggling to connect with audiences.
Next Week Will Be A Slow One At The Box Office
Honey Don’t! is the only major release hitting theatres next weekend, but it’s not expected to make much noise. Tracking suggests an opening in the $2 million to $4 million range, though it will likely land closer to $2 million, similar to February’s Drive-Away Dolls.
With no significant new competition, the box office should otherwise look fairly steady and familiar, with holdovers continuing to slide down in their numbers. It’s shaping up to be a quieter weekend overall; the kind of weekend where audiences are more likely to stay at home and watch a streaming release. Or catch up on films they may have missed earlier in the summer.
As always, we’ll find out next week.
