A Wicked live musical special is coming to NBC later this fall. Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande will appear on the network TV event. Wicked: For Good is on the way in the tail end of 2025. (Effective cross-promotion and a good show for people watching on free TV.)

The Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California plays host to the Wicked live musical special. People who don’t catch this event that night can stream it next day on Peacock. Jon M Chu announced the move during NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation.

Chu explained, “I am absolutely delighted to let you in on a centerpiece of our campaign for the second film, and it’s something that’s never been done in the 22-year history of Wicked.” Chu said.

He adds, “This fall, our stars, the wonderful Cynthia Erivo and incandescent Ariana Grande, will be joined by their castmates and some wonderful surprise guests in a one time only event from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, they will perform live many of the songs from the first movie — and maybe a little bit from the second one as well, for a night of entertainment that we think will be, as they say in Oz, thrillifying.”

Wicked Live Musical Coming to NBC This Fall

Wicked

Wicked fever took hold of the moviegoing populace last year. The Universal film positively cleaned up at the box office. It’s absolutely no surprise to see NBC and the movie studio teaming-up to do live broadway adaptations of the popular musical. Wicked on regular TV is going to draw a massive amount of eyeballs when it gets rolling.

Here’s some of the biggest highlights from Wicked’s theatrical run last year:

  • Biggest Opening Weekend for a Broadway Adaptation: With $163M, it surpasses the previous record held by Les Misérables, which opened to $103M.
  • 6th Biggest Opening Weekend of 2024: Behind only a few major titles, Wicked outperformed Despicable Me 4 and is taking the cinematic world by storm.
  • Impressive Reception: Boasting a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes with 90% from critics and a remarkable 97% from audiences, Wicked has earned an A CinemaScore, indicating widespread enjoyment and approval.
