Television sitcoms can take on a bunch of different forms. In the 90s, things really revolved around families at the highest levels of the genre. But, the workplace comedy had a massive hold on the decade as well. One of the best examples of a lighthearted show in that vein was The Drew Carey Show.
Over the course of 233 episodes, people grew to love Drew Carey’s titular character. His adventures with Diedrich Bader, Ryan Stiles, Christa Miller and Kathy Kinney were a welcome sight on most television sets. On May 13, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment brought the action home for fans who wanted to own all these hysterical hijinks for themselves on home video. (The Drew Carey Show: The Complete Series also released on AppleTV, Fandango at Home, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube and other places digitally. But, it never hurts to have the physical edition.)
Despite the fact that The Drew Carey Show now has its own YouTube channel, there’s no real substitute for plopping down and revisiting the series on DVD at this point. Old programming lineups used to thrive off of familiarity with characters, and you can feel that warm nostalgia wafting off of The Drew Carey Show like the summer heat off of the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland, Ohio. (That’s where this beloved series is set, and the entire run feels like a loving portrayal of a region that finds itself taking shots from outsiders constantly.)
There’s a lot to love about The Drew Carey Show and having the entire run right in front of you hammers that fact home.
The Drew Carey Show: The Complete Series Comes Home

The Drew Carey Show: The Complete Series includes over 86 hours of Cleveland-based laughs. Drew Carey and Bruce Helford created the show and their rock solid foundation allowed a crowd-pleaser to form. The title character is an everyman, but one that never feels quite as mean-spirited as later versions of a midwestern office worker would in other corners of TV. There’s real warmth between Drew and his buddies.
We can’t really go this long without mentioning Kathy Kinney’s delightful turn as Mimi Bobeck, Drew’s office nemesis. Their back and forth provides a ton of the laughs through the series’ run. It’s hysterical to think about the kinds of gags Mimi managed to play on Drew. Couple that with the trials and tribulations of a man trying to make his way in the world and you have the recipe for a good show.
We have to mention that a few episodes don’t make the cut here. 4 musical episodes, “Drew’s Dance Party Special”, “Drew Carey’s Back-to-School Rock ‘n’ Roll Comedy Hour Parts 1 + 2”, and “What’s Love Got to Do with It?” are all missing because of music licensing issues. However, you will get the special feature, “Life Inside the Cubicle”, which helps layout how this series came together back then. If you’re in the mood for some classic Midwestern-flavored TV shenanigans, you’re going to like The Drew Carey Show: The Complete Series. If you are a Drew Carey die-hard, this one is a no-brainer.
What’s The Show About?
Here’s a description of the show: “Starring Drew Carey as a wannabe upwardly mobile guy who looks like, well, most of the rest of us, this comedy explores the life of an average guy who will never be hired to model Speedos but will find lots of laughs and maybe even a date.”We’ve got tons of news over at That Hashtag Show!
