Star Wars: Starfighter is all set to be the latest entry in the Star Wars film franchise. All in spite of it being a spinoff film rather than a mainline film entry. Apparently, director Shawn Levy wants to distinguish this spinoff from the somewhat dubious sequel trilogy. In fact, he wants to distance it so much from that trilogy that the setting for this upcoming new Star Wars film is the very opposite of a desert.
How do I know this? Well, it’s all due to the first look image for Star Wars: Starfighter that Variety has just posted. In fact, you can see that first look image for yourself below:

That first look image shows off Ryan Gosling and newcomer Flynn Gray in Star Wars-appropriate costumes, and apparently floating on a boat somewhere in an alien sea. It may be the Mediterranean Sea near Sardinia, Italy in real life, but you can bet that there will be some alien fish when we eventually see Star Wars: Starfighter in theaters. Which will be on May 28, 2027 if all goes according to plan.
Star Wars: Starfighter Taking to the High Seas
Honestly, this is a most fascinating setting for Star Wars: Starfighter to go into. The ocean is something almost no Star Wars media has ever explored. Some of the few times we see it is in Episode 1 and in Episode II in the depths of Naboo’s seas and the storm-swept waves of Kamino respectively. This latest Star Wars adventure looks like it’s going to be sailing on the surface of a sea for once, perhaps in a story not too dissimilar from Waterworld or even Pirates of the Caribbean? We can only hope for a high seas adventure, possibly with some pirates mixed in.
What do you all think? What kind of oceanic adventure do you think Star Wars: Starfighter will be? Tell us your thoughts in the comments section below.
