In some of the more shocking news lately, Bowen Yang is exiting SNL after this weekend’s episode. They’re currently in the middle of their 8th season on the show. They’re one of the most beloved and fan-favorite cast members in recent memory. Bowen’s final episode will be this Saturday, December 20th, which will feature Ariana Grande as host and Cher as the musical guest. That’s not a bad lineup to go out on. There’s no reported reason for the mid-season departure for Yang. It’s a surprise for sure though.

He started off as a writer on the series for Season 44 in 2018. After one season as a writer, he officially joined the cast as a featured player for Season 45 and was a main cast member by Season 47.

SNL isn’t the only thing that Yang has going for him though. He’s got a popular podcast called Las Culturistas that he co-hosts with Matt Rogers. They have a live show that runs on Bravo, and now Peacock with a new season coming in 2026.

This follows up on a series of departures from the cast during season 50, including Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim, Devon Walker, Michael Longfellow, and Emil Wakim.
