The emergency department at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital is getting back to work. Max announced the start of production on season 2 of The Pitt today.

The Pitt is a medical drama that serves as “a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh.” The show’s unique format captivated viewers in season 1; the entire season takes place over a single shift in ‘The Pitt,’ with each episode covering one hour of the shift time.

Noah Wyle helms the show – a return to his medical drama roots following his long-running stint on ER. Wyle also executive produces the show, along with showrunner R. Scott Gemmill, Emmy winner John Wells, Michael Hissrich, Erin Jontow, and Simran Baidwan.

In addition to Wyle as Dr. Robby, The Pitt also stars Tracy Ifeachor (Dr. Collins), Patrick Ball (Dr. Langdon), Katherine LaNasa (charge nurse Dana Evans), Supriya Ganesh (Dr. Mohan), Fiona Dourif (Dr. McKay), Taylor Dearden (Dr. King), Isa Briones (Dr. Santos), Gerran Howell (Dr. Whitaker), and Shabana Azeez (Dr. Javadi).

The Pitt has proved a breakout hit for Max. Since its release earlier this year, the series has remained within the streamer’s top three most-watched titles globally. It also performed well with critics; the show currently scores 95% on Rotten Tomatoes

Season 2 has officially started production, which takes place largely on the Warner Bros. studio lot in Burbank, California. Exteriors are shot on location in Pittsburgh.

The Pitt season 2 will premiere in January 2026. You can stream season 1 on Max now.
