Netflix has been adaptating quite a few franchises into live-action adaptations, with this live-action Assassin’s Creed series being one of their latest ones. Alas, we don’t actually know that much about it. Netflix are being rather secretive about what it’s actually about. However, they are slowly handing out little tidbits about it as teasers. Which explains why we’re getting this story.

Netflix is proud to announce that their live-action Assassin’s Creed series has begun filming in Rome, Italy. With said production primarily taking place at Cinecittà Studios: the largest film studio in Italy, and all of Europe too. Not only that, but Netflix is also revealing that the series will start out in the Roman Empire in AD 64, with production using Cinecittà’s Ancient Rome back lot to make the filming more immersive.

There’s more too. Netflix are also adding four new recurring additions to the cast of Assassin’s Creed. They aren’t yet telling us who they will be playing, but the cast additions are:

  • Sandra Guldberg-Kampp (she/her) (Foundation, The Rain, Electric Child)
  • Youssef Kerkour (he/him) (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms)
  • Mirren Mack (she/her) (Hedda, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple)
  • Louis McCartney (he/him) (Stranger Things: The First Shadow)

Netflix’s Assassin’s Creed Confirmed Starting Out in Roman Empire

The Roman cast gets bigger and bigger.

Honestly, this is a peculiar direction for Netflix to take with their live-action Assassin’s Creed series. Entirely due to none of the current games taking place in the Roman Empire. Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood did take place in Rome, but during Renaissance Italy over a millennium later. Clearly, Netflix are doing their own thing for this series, and indeed, they do confirm that it’s an original story, not based on any current game. Now all that’s left is to see this original story will be good, or if it will be an Ides of Flop.
