Well, What We Do In The Shadows was an excellent movie they turned into an even more excellent TV series on FX. Now they’re trying to do the same thing with Young Frankenstein. According to Deadline, the classic Mel Brooks movie starring Gene Wilder is getting a pilot order at FX.
The new project is called Very Young Frankenstein and has Mel Brooks’ blessing, he’ll also have an executive producer title alongside the trio of creatives from What We Do In The Shadows, Stefani Robinson, Taika Waititi, and Garrett Basch. Kevin Salter and Michael Gruskoff are also executive producers. 20th Television is the studio behind it.
There aren’t any plot details for this new reboot, but it is inspired by the classic 1974 comedy from Mel Brooks. Casting for the pilot has yet to begin.
What Is Mel Brooks Up To Lately?

Mel Brooks has been busy in recent years with History of the World, Part 2, and the upcoming Spaceballs 2 from Amazon MGM that is currently casting and in active development. His other popular films include Blazing Saddles (1974), Life Stinks (1991), Robin Hood: Men in Tights (1993), The Producers (1967, 2005), High Anxiety (1977) and Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995).
Young Frankenstein is seen by some as his masterpiece of comedy. It starred Gene Wilder, Peter Boyle, Marty Feldman, Cloris Leachman, Madeline Kahn, Teri Garr, and Brooks. The plot followed Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced Fronkensteen) as he inherited his grandfather’s Transylvania castle and to prove his grandfather wasn’t insane. He slowly starts back up his grandfather’s experiments creating his own monster in the process.
The film was previously adapted into a Broadway musical, which debuted in November 2007.
