Since Helldivers 2 made its video game debut on February 8, 2024 for the PS5 and PC, it has achieved some shocking levels of success. Certainly far, far beyond what the developers at Arrowhead Game Studios ever intended for this third-person co-op shooter to achieve. And now with the recent addition of Xbox Series S/X players into the mix with the Xbox launch, that success is reaching new heights for the Federation of Super Earth and managed democracy. All of which explains all the hype around the upcoming movie adaptation of that game, and why we’re eager for any new information about it, whether from Coretta Kelly at Strohmann News or otherwise. Information like this bit of news.

The Hollywood Reporter has just reported that Justin Lin is now the director for the upcoming Helldivers movie based on the Arrowhead Game Studios video game franchise. Lin is best known for his work directing the Fast & Furious franchise from The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006) to Fast & Furious 6 (2013), before picking up the directing for the franchise again with F9 (2021). However, he has also directed Star Trek Beyond, so he does have experience with science fiction movies, which the Helldivers movie definitely falls under.

Justin Lin will not just be the director though. He will also be one of the producers via his Perfect Storm Entertainment banner, along with Hutch Parker and PlayStation Productions’ Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan. Gary Dauberman remains as the writer for this Helldivers movie, and with his experience in writing for horror movies It and Annabelle in the mix to boot.

Helldivers Movie Now Features Justin Lin as Director

Loyal Helldivers can expect an action-packed experience.

Honestly, this creates some interesting implications for this upcoming Helldivers movie. Justin Lin really likes directing action movies, so we can expect the Helldivers to engage in some action movie shenanigans. However, that combined with Gary Dauberman’s extensive horror movie experience suggests that we might have an action-horror movie here. Any veterans of Super Earth’s campaigns will recall that there is actually quite a lot of horror movie material in all of the missions, whether overtly in the combat against horrific foes itself or in the background lore. We can only hope that it’s tempered with the dark comedy of Super Earth’s follies and foibles.

Alas, this is just speculation for now. We will just have to see what sort of movie that upcoming Helldivers movie will be, as well as wait for an actual release date.

What do you all think? Are you eager to see if Justin Lin will make Helldivers into a great movie? Will we see plenty of Helldiver body parts flying everywhere? Tell us your loyal, democratic thoughts in the comments section below to be reviewed by your local Truth Enforcer.
