Legendary WWE superstar Bill Goldberg made his WWE return this past Monday on Monday Night Raw. This will mark his first major in‑ring return since 2022. At 58, the four‑time world champion stepped into the ring and squared off against reigning World Heavyweight Champion Gunther, reigniting a feud that dates back to October 2024, when Gunther taunted Goldberg and his son, Gage, at Bad Blood.
Goldberg vs. Gunther At WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event
While we didn’t get any in-ring action, tensions were high, and we now know that Goldberg and Gunther will be facing off soon. Goldberg demanded a showdown at Saturday Night’s Main Event, slated for July 12, 2025, at Atlanta’s State Farm Arena, the city he once called home as a Georgia Bulldog and an Atlanta Falcon.
What makes this final match for Goldberge interesting, for one, is his age. At the age of 58, it has been a while since he has stepped into the ring. Goldberg’s last WWE match was against Roman Reigns at the Elimination Chamber in February of 2022. Goldberg has openly acknowledged knee and shoulder injuries during his rigorous training, underscoring the physical toll this final run has taken. So, if you are expecting a long match, don’t get your hopes up. More than likely, his retirement match will be like most of his past matches, short and brutal.

Yes, I know I didn’t talk much about the World Heavyweight Champion implications. That is because one of two things will happen (if Gunther still has the belt). Gunther wins, or, Goldberge wins, and then Seth “Freakin” Rollins cashes in and takes the title from him. But we also need to remember that this showdown isn’t just about a title, it’s the closing chapter of one of wrestling’s most storied careers.
