Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is without a doubt one of the best anime series to have ever been made. All you have to do is watch the first season of this fantasy drama adventure (heavy on the drama) to find that out for yourself. You can even just read the manga adapted from the work of writer Kanehito Yamada and artist Tsukasa Abe. In fact, the fact that the first season consists of a whopping 28 episodes should tell you that you’re in for a treat. Especially since the vast majority of anime seasons typically run for 12-13 episodes instead.

Fortunately, Crunchyroll are fully aware of just how good it is, and how much people want more. At their panel at Anime Expo 2025, Crunchyroll officially announced that the long-awaited second season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is in the works and will see a January 2026 release window. In fact, Crunchyroll has acquired season 2 and will be streaming it when it makes its debut. They’re even advertising that fact with a brand-new official trailer. You can check out that trailer below:

Interesting that this is what they choose to use as the thumbnail image for season 2.

There’s one last thing though. Crunchyroll is also revealing that Tomoya Kitagawa will direct Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End season 2 instead of Keiichirō Saitō from season 1. Kitagawa has worked on storyboards and directed multiple episodes of season 1 though, so it’s fine. Not only that, but Saitō will still be on board as the supervising director. Everyone else will be returning to reprise their staff roles, including Daiki Harashina (takt op. Destiny), Tomohiro Suzuki (One-Punch Man), Takasemaru (Violet Evergarden), Keisuke Kojima (100 Meters), Yuri Fujinaka (key animation on SPY x FAMILY CODE: White), Seiko Yoshioka (background art on Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo), and Evan Call.

This is a much better look for the cast, and prettier too.

Honestly, this is huge news. Especially if you’ve been a fan of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End ever since that first episode premiered on September 29, 2023. It only took about six months for the first season to conclude on March 22, 2024; and we’ve been waiting for any news of a season 2 ever since. Well, now it’s here, and the hype is real. All we have to do now is wait just a bit longer for next year to finally see where Frieren’s journeys take her and her friends next. We only had to wait over two years for this info. Waiting a couple more months won’t be a problem.
