David Corenswet has a huge weight on his shoulders. He’s going to be the next Superman for an entire new generation of moviegoers. He’s currently on the press tour for Superman, which releases in theaters on July 11th, 2025. Our friend Brandon Davis of Phase Hero sat down with David and asked him some questions about Superman. One of the most poignant and important answers he gave was about the heroics of Superman.

Here’s what David Corenswet had to say about being a hero on screen.

I think the the thing that is most reassuring about any hero, whether it’s a superhero or, you know, your local fire crew who shows up, you know, when your smoke alarm goes off is the sense that there’s a stamina and a willingness to keep doing the job?

I think about when I dislocated my shoulder, I was on set, and I dislocated my shoulder and for two hours from when I dislocated my shoulder to when I finally got discharged, like, I left the hospital better, you know, popped it back in… So many people had to keep working along the way and keep coming back. Keep trying to figure out what the right thing to do was. Keep me company, get me from one place to the other.

And in movies, a lot of the time, you cut over, you cut out that stuff, you cut out the boring stuff, and you just skip to the exciting bits. And in real life, you know that they’re they’re these, these this, this commitment and this stamina that, that, that actually saves the day. So, it was fun to get to play with that in the movie of just Superman has to keep putting on his boots and going to work and you don’t just cut to the most exciting save. You also see that he’s got to get the squirrel out of the tree so the squirrel doesn’t get smushed.
