Yes, the 50th anniversary of Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope is coming up soon. To celebrate that occasion, the film will make a glorious return to theaters in 2027. The iconic film will debut in theaters for the anniversary run on April 30th, 2027. The official Star Wars accounts on social media made the announcement. “Star Wars: A New Hope returns to theaters April 2027 to celebrate 50 years of a galaxy far, far away,” alongside a 50th anniversary image.

Here’s the press release they linked with that official announcement.

For Star Wars fans, this isn’t likely huge news because we can expect that there would be a theatrical re-release like the ones we’ve gotten previously for the prequel trilogy. The film will only be in theaters for a limited time, so we don’t know exactly how long the run will be.

The 1977 film changed the landscape of film and pop culture forever on its release. It stars Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill. The most recent public screening of the film was at the British Film Institute, that allowed fans to watch its first ever print. There’s no word on which version of the film will be shown in theaters for the 50th anniversary.

Tickets aren’t on sale yet, but should be sometime in 2026 or early 2027.
