In celebration of the 10th anniversary of its groundbreaking Broadway debut, Walt Disney Studios will release a filmed version of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony®, GRAMMY®, Emmy®, and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Hamilton in theaters nationwide on September 5, 2025. This exclusive theatrical release expands upon the version currently available on Disney+ and promises a once-in-a-lifetime cinematic experience for fans of the iconic musical.
Filmed in June 2016 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre, the original production features the full, award-winning cast, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Renée Elise Goldsberry, Daveed Diggs, Phillipa Soo, and more. The theatrical release will also feature a new prologue titled “Reuniting the Revolution,” offering never-before-seen interviews with original cast members and creators reflecting on the legacy and cultural impact of Hamilton over the last decade.
“When we filmed Hamilton, we wanted to try to capture the feeling of being in the Richard Rodgers Theatre during that first year on Broadway,” said director and producer Thomas Kail. “We’re thrilled that audiences will now have the opportunity to experience it on the big screen.”
To mark the occasion, a special premiere screening will take place on September 3 at the newly revitalized Delacorte Theater in Central Park, home of The Public Theater’s Free Shakespeare in the Park. This location is especially significant, as Hamilton first premiered at The Public Theater in 2015 before moving to Broadway. A limited number of advance tickets will be available for donation beginning August 11, with proceeds benefiting The Public Theater. Free lottery and standby tickets will also be offered on the day of the event.
Following its U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico release on September 5, Hamilton will arrive in the U.K. and Ireland on September 26, and Australia and New Zealand on November 13.
This filmed version combines the immediacy of live theater with cinematic intimacy, bringing audiences closer than ever to the performers and choreography that defined a generation. With its genre-blending score of hip-hop, R&B, jazz, and Broadway, Hamilton retells the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton in a way that reshaped modern musical theater and influenced culture, politics, and education.
Tickets for the theatrical release are available now at Fandango and other major outlets.
