Pro wrestler turned actor Dave Bautista is eyeing two gigantic roles for Amazon MGM Studios. Deadline was the first with the news that Bautista is closing deals for Highlander and Road House 2 for Amazon MGM Studios.
Bautista will star opposite Henry Cavill in Highlander from director Chad Stahelski. That’s been a passion project for both Cavill and Stahelski for a while now. Their sources are saying that Bautista is playing Kurgan, the villain made famous by Clancy Brown in the original film.
On the other side, he’s also joining Road House 2 with Jake Gyllenhaal, who returns as Dalton from the first film. The script comes from Will Beall and is produced by Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Alex Gartner, Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories Productions with Josh McLaughlin and Ivan Atkinson executive producing. That film recently lost its director in Guy Ritchie, but they’ve replaced him with Ilya Naishuller, who directed the smash-hit Nobody.
UA’s Scott Stuber and Nick Nesbitt are producing Highlander alongside Neal H. Moritz and 87Eleven Entertainment, Stahelski’s production banner. UA took full rights to Highlander, which Lionsgate developed, with the potential to also develop a new series.
