We caught up with stars Dafne Keen (Logan, His Dark Materials) and Sophie Nélisse (Yellowjackets) at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 to talk about their highly anticipated horror-thriller Whistle. And from the way they describe it, this is one movie that’s not for the faint of heart.
Whistle follows a misfit group of high school students who stumble upon a cursed object, the ancient Aztec Death Whistle. Legend has it that blowing into the whistle unleashes a terrifying sound that summons the listener’s future death to hunt them down. It’s an eerie mix of folklore, supernatural dread, and heart-pounding suspense.
“I love a good horror movie — especially a bloody, girl-powered one,” Keen said, clearly excited about the film’s unique tone. Nélisse echoed the sentiment, adding, “What I really loved about my character was how layered and human she felt, even in the middle of such an intense, terrifying story.”
The actresses shared how Whistle blends jump scares with grounded emotional beats. “We wanted the horror to feel real,” Keen explained. “So when things get intense, the audience feels it right in their bones.”
Beyond the scares, Whistle promises a compelling story about survival, friendship, and finding strength when it matters most. “It’s the kind of movie you want to watch in a packed theater,” Nélisse laughed, “with everyone screaming and laughing together.”
With its fresh take on supernatural horror, a powerful young cast, and a folklore-inspired hook, Whistle is shaping up to be one of 2026’s must-watch thrillers. Horror fans, mark your calendars.
