Nostalgic feeling slashers are all the rage right now. Whether that’s the era that Scream (2022) and Halloween (2018) ushered in, or a more original blend of the genre like with Longlegs or Fear Street: Prom Queen. Now, Shudder is adding Night of the Reaper to its stable of original films. It hits Shudder on September 19th, just in time for Halloween season.

The film features a story that feels like its heavily inspired by slashers of the past, but adds in some new twists and turns.

In the heart of a quiet, 1980s suburb, college student Deena returns home and reluctantly takes on a last-minute babysitting job. That same night, the local sheriff receives a cryptic package that pulls him into a sinister scavenger hunt that sets off a game of cat and mouse with a dangerous killer. As the clues unravel, Deena finds herself ensnared in a nightmarish mystery that she may not survive.

It comes from director Brandon Christensen and was written by Brandon and Ryan Christensen. It stars Jessica Clement, Ryan Robbins, Summer H. Howell, Matty Finochio, Max Christensen, Ben Cockell, Bryn Samuel, Savannah Miller, Susan Serrao, Huxley Fisher, Isla Spencer, Blair Young, and Drake Seipert.

Brandon Christensen is known for movies like Still/Born, Z, and The Puppetman. He’s a Canadian filmmaker who has worked on plenty of horror movies with his siblings.

I can’t wait to see Night of the Reaper when it hits Shudder on September 19th.
