Are you ready for death to make a comeback after Final Destination: Bloodlines? The follow-up with Final Destination 7 has chosen filmmaker Michiel Blanchart to direct the sequel. THR was first with the news. They’re saying that there’s no offer quite yet, but he’s at the top of the list for New Line Cinema.
The search for a new director has been hot and heavy after Final Destination: Bloodlines opened to No. 1 at the box office and took in over $286 million globally. Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein directed that film but declined to return for a sequel. Lori Evans Taylor is returning to write the sequel after she co-wrote Bloodlines with Guy Busick.
Destination franchise producer and steward Craig Perry and franchise veteran Sheila Hanahan Taylor are back producing, as are Jon Watts and his wife, Dianne McGunigle, along with Toby Emmerich. Warren Zide is exec producing.
Each movie has centered on a character who has a premonition of a horrific and deadly event. They cheat his or her own death and save several other lives in the process, only to have Death, personified as an unstoppable force of nature, come for the survivors one by one.
Final Destination is the third-highest-grossing horror franchise for New Line Cinema after The Conjuring with $2.73 billion and the It films at $1.2 billion.
