Crunchyroll is quite eager to show off the best of the best of their anime incoming for the Fall 2025 season. It’s likely why they were so eager to show off those anime series at a preview screening. Four of them to be precise. The list of anime they’re most eager to show off consists of My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s, This Monster Wants to Eat Me, May I Ask for One Final Thing?, and Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider. All four of these anime series turned out to be quite entertaining to watch.
But what are they about, you might ask? Well, let’s take a look at all four of these Crunchyroll anime series incoming in Fall 2025 below in order of screening, starting with:
My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s Ep. 1-2 (Sunrise and TMS Entertainment) ~ 78/100
At first glance, My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s looks like a stereotypical isekai anime. In fact, it starts out exactly like that, walking and talking exactly like one of those dime-a-dozen isekai anime with copy-paste plots. Complete with a dark-haired Kirito clone male protagonist who looks like he’s about to get the stereotypical (and misogynistic) fantasy harem.
And yet, after watching even just the first two episodes, it’s pretty clear that this particular isekai is not the usual slop. First off, the MC’s entire class gets isekaied instead of just him. Then the aforementioned isekai hero Akira Oda (voiced by Takeo Ōtsuka (JP) and Austin Tindle (EN)) immediately does not go with the herd mentality his classmates have in blind following the local king’s orders ands briefing, and instead, he goes off by himself to investigate further. That leads to one of the most compelling conspiracy and thriller storylines I’ve seen in a while, let alone in an isekai anime.
And that’s on top of My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s looking pretty good as well, all from studios Sunrise and TMS Entertainment. Although to be fair, isekai anime are known for having weirdly high quality animation despite of (or maybe because of) their nonexistent copy-paste stories. At least this isekai anime deserves its high quality animation, and having a nice art style to boot. It harkens back to older 90’s anime with that particular style, just with modern touch-ups.
It’s this combination of surprisingly good story and good animation that makes me give My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s Ep. 1 and Ep. 2 a 78/100. It’s certainly promising, but I shall wait a bit to see if the rest of the anime lives up to that promise.
My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s Ep. 1 made its debut on October 6, 2025. You can watch it only on Crunchyroll.
This Monster Wants to Eat Me Ep. 1 (Studio Lings) ~ 96/100
Right from the get-go, This Monster Wants to Eat Me was the anime I most wanted to see. And after seeing it, I am so glad that this dark fantasy horror yuri anime lived up to its promise.
I’m not kidding about this anime being dark fantasy. The main character Hinako Yaotose (voiced by Reina Ueda (JP)) starts off by being one of the most depressed MCs I’ve seen in a while. And honestly, after losing literally her entire family in some sort of accident, she has every reason to be that horribly depressed, so you can understand why she has thoughts of suicide. Then you add in the deuteragonist Shiori Oumi (voiced by Yui Ishikawa (JP)) who is a terrifyingly powerful mermaid who openly states that she wishes to eat Hinako, but only when she’s fully “ripe”. This combination of some very dark themes promises some potentially toxic yuri here, which is why this is one of the best anime of this season.
And then you add in some very high quality animation from Studio Lings. In particular, I’m giving kudos to the scenes where Hinako is overcome by depression and just…zones out. The depiction of her being deep under the sea (complete with some very well-drawn fish and deep sea critters) is a wonderfully apt metaphor for depression. And the blood spilling into the sea is just divinely good as it is horrific.
This is why This Monster Wants to Eat Me Ep. 1 gets a 96/100 from me. Loved that first episode, and definitely looking forward to more.
This Monster Wants to Eat Me Ep. 1 made its debut on October 2, 2025. You can watch it only on Crunchyroll.
May I Ask for One Final Thing? Ep. 1 (Liden Films Kyoto Studio) ~ 94/100
May I Ask for One Final Thing? was the other anime I was most looking forward to in this screening, and the first two episodes really delivered.
The anime’s premise is very similar to other anime that features a female “villain”-type character being wronged by a suitor and a manipulative noblegirl. However, Scarlet El Vandimion (voiced by Asami Seto (JP) and Morgan Lauré (EN)) differs from all of those other protagonists in several key ways. The most notable of those differences is that she’s willing to personally put the beat-down on those who wronged her. Specifically: with her fists. The way she punches the lights out of her enemies left and right is incredibly cathartic, especially when the latter part of the episode gives us her very much troubled childhood in detail and you see just why she’s so filled with rage.
And on top of that, the animation from Liden Films Kyoto Studio is just gorgeous. Every drop of blood and every tooth broken by Scarlet’s punches is animated in lovingly violent detail. It really only adds to the catharsis factor of the anime when you see realistic spittle and blood droplets flying from the corrupt nobles’ mouth as Scarlet punches them in the face.
This is why May I Ask for One Final Thing? Ep. 1 gets a 94/100 from me. This will be another anime I will look forward to following, only right behind This Monster Wants to Eat Me.
May I Ask for One Final Thing? Ep. 1 and Ep. 2 both premiered on October 3, 2025. You can watch both episodes only on Crunchyroll.
Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider Ep. 1 (Liden Films and Toei Company) ~ 85/100
The basic premise of Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider alone would pique most viewers’ interest. The show is basically about a man named Tanzaburo Tojima (voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi (JP)) who wants to be Kamen Rider. No, he isn’t just Kamen Rider’s biggest fan, even though he is a major fan of the tokusatsu hero. He actually wants to become Kamen Rider and fight Shocker and everything.
That simple(?) goal and the bizarrely hilarious circumstances as Tojima tries to achieve his Kamen Rider dreams. It results a very bizarre action comedy story that’s simultaneously hilarious and cringe. And yet, it’s also somehow heartwarming when the MC finally gets his wish to become Kamen Rider…at the ripe old age of 40. You cheer for him while laughing at him all at once because maybe, just maybe, you too have a lifelong dream that you might’ve given up, but still wish to see it through. It’s that nostalgia factory too that makes this anime’s story all the more engaging, especially for older audiences.
The animation from Liden Films and Toei Company only enhances that nostalgia factor. Especially when they deliberately choose an art style reminiscent of much older anime from the ’70s, ’80s, and even early ’90s. It’s especially fitting since this entire anime is an official spinoff of the Kamen Rider franchise, which began in the 1970s.
It’s all of this combined that results in me giving Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider Ep. 1 a score of 85/100. The nostalgia factor combined with the action-comedy story makes for an anime that will probably move you to tears, whether from feels or from laughter.
Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider Ep. 1 made its debut on October 4, 2025. You can watch it only on Crunchyroll.
