He’s fought on Thanos, dinosaurs, and the deep state. She’s battled spies and the ancient creators of her post-apocalyptic “silo” society. And the other? She only faced the ghosts of her past and the long, dark Alaskan winter. So what’s next for Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World), Rebecca Ferguson (Mission Impossible series, Silo) and Kali Reis (True Detective: Night Country)? How about taking on a near-future in which artificial intelligence (AI) decides your fate? That’s exactly what they’ll do in the upcoming film Mercy, about which we’re about to learn more at New York Comic-Con (NYCC 2025).

Pratt stars as an LAPD detective in what could be a not-too-distant future that sees AI judges determine our guilt or innocence. In a cruel twist of fate, he faces an AI construct (Ferguson) that he even helped create, with his own life on the line.
Chris Pratt faces AI judgment in Mercy

Here’s the only tidbit the studio has given us so far:
“Set in the near future, an LAPD detective (Chris Pratt) wakes up strapped to an execution chair, on trial for murdering his wife. He has 90 minutes to prove his innocence to Judge Maddox (Rebecca Ferguson), an AI judge he helped create.”
In some ways, at first glance, the studio description for Mercy definitely throws off Minority Report vibes. Living, human beings still drove fate in that story, however. Here, the fate of an accused LAPD detective rests wholly in the… (hands?) of programming. Will he survive? Will “Maddox” be capable of understanding and determining the truth?

We’ll find out tomorrow at NYCC 2025, when we’ll have a chance to talk to stars Chris Pratt Kali Reiss before attending the Mercy panel later in the day. (Joining Pratt and Reis at the panel is Timur Bekmambetov (director/producer), FYI.) Stay tuned here to That Hashtag Show for updates on this and all your NYCC 2025 happenings!
