A new report from The Wrap is shaking up some of the notions we thought we knew about Jim Carrey and his career. They’re reporting that Carrey is in talks to lead a live-action version of The Jetsons with Colin Trevorrow in the director’s chair. It’s important to note that this is still a very early idea in development and that no deals have been signed as of right now.
Colin Trevorrow and Joe Epstein are in talks to write the script for the project.
The Jetsons was the other half of Hanna-Barbera’s coin of animated sitcoms in the 1960s. There was the prehistoric side with The Flintstones and then we had the futuristic side with The Jetsons. It centered on the married couple of George and Jane Jetson, their kids Judy and Elroy, their dog Astro, and a robot maid Rosie.
It starred George O’Hanlon, Janet Waldo, Mel Blanc, Penny Singleton, Daws Butler, Don Messick, Jean Vander Pyl, Frank Welker and Howard Morris and ran from 1962-1963 with a revival in 1985 for 51 more episodes.
This news is particularly relevant because Jim Carrey has been rumored to be retired from acting besides playing Doctor Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Colin Trevorrow is the director of the blockbuster Jurassic World franchise.
We’ll keep you updated on this news as more develops.
