Finding Joy is the #1 movie on Prime Video this week. That Hashtag Show sat down with Tosin Morohunfola to discuss his role in the charming Holiday romance. Tyler Perry directed and wrote Finding Joy. And, the uplifting tale is finding an audience of people all over who just want a nicely-told romance tale to get their Holiday season off to a good start. For Morohunfola, the movie has an appeal of a slower life compared to our modern hustle and bustle.

He told us that there’s a romantic quality to his character, Ridge, just from how he approaches life.  “ There’s something romantic to it right? There’s something beautiful about Ridge,” He began. “You see a tough guy on the outside. But, there’s something beautiful about someone who can slow life down and smell the flowers.”

“He’s a solid man. He’s a good man,” Morohunfola smirked. “You know, if you happen to be the thing that Ridge is focusing on, he’s gonna focus solely on you. And, I think there’s a lot of people that crave somebody like that in their life.”

Finding Joy’s Tosin Morohunfola on healing

Elsewhere in our conversation, the actor talked about how Ridge approaches the idea of healing. Everyone is going through something, and you can definitely feel how hurt this man has been by recent tragedies during Finding Joy. But through crafting bonds with those around him, he finds a way to move forward.

Morohunfola mused, “I think that’s kind of the most important thing of the film for me. From my perspective, I just think there are a lot of black men who walk around this world being tough. And, needing to be tough in so many ways, for so many reasons, to survive. But, the step we need to make as a society, is to create space for them to be vulnerable. And to let that side out.”

“I think a lot of the reason that they’re tough, a lot of times, has to do with grief,” he added. “It does have to do with carrying baggage that they have not been given the opportunity to set down. So, I really want people to notice that, and then notice the men in their lives who carry that same baggage. Who needs to be offered a place to rest, offered a place to put it down, and to connect.”
