The Predator series was dormant for a long time between 2010 and 2022’s Prey. Dan Trachtenberg has brought the series back to the spotlight with three movies, Prey, Predator: Killer of Killers, and Predator: Badlands. Badlands is out in theaters right now. While on the press tour for the film, Dan sat down with our friend Brandon Davis of Phase Hero. They were kind enough to give us an exclusive preview of their upcoming episode and they talked all things Predator, past, present, and future.

One interesting wrinkle that they talked about was the possible return of cast members from the previous films like Predator and Predator 2. Here’s what Dan had to say about bringing back characters like Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger), Mike Harrigan (Danny Glover), and Naru (Amber Midthunder) in live action or animation.

“I mean, it takes consideration. I definitely really do think of the two things quite specifically. Like, I don’t want any choice to be arbitrary and really want to feel like, to make a movie that’s animated, it should be because it would be really awesome that it’s animated and to make something live-action, it wants to feel like it’s so cool that this is in live action, that I’m witnessing it in this way. So, both mediums, bring something quite specific to the table and that’s what I’d want to really take into consideration.

To be more specific about Dutch from Predator, here’s what Dan had to say.

Were I to do that, I would be thinking about, once again, like, ‘What’s a story that hasn’t been told?’ I wouldn’t be thinking of it like, ‘Well, it can happen. So it should,’ you know? Really thinking about, ‘What hasn’t happened yet? What must happen…’ would be awesome.

Well, if that doesn’t show that Dan Trachtenberg loves this franchise just as much as you or I do, I don’t know what does. What he’s done for the series has been magnificent, and here’s to hoping he gets more chances to make these movies. As for the most recent release, Predator: Badlands, it’s out in theaters now and here’s what we had to say about it in our 94% review.

Predator: Badlands ends up as one of the best and most satisfying action films on the year and easily places itself among the best in the Predator pantheon. Dan Trachtenberg and the cast and crew on this film did wonders. This is the closest we’re going to get to a modern-day version of those classic 80s and 90s action films that brought together heart, emotion, violence, and made you feel uplifted when they were over.

The new episode of Phase Hero releases on Monday morning.
