The Pendragon Cycle is a series of historical fantasy novels by Stephen R. Lawhead. As you might’ve noticed from the title, it’s basically a retelling of Arthurian legend. However, a closer look reveals that it’s a rather bizarre retelling, with a focus on religion over anything else. Specifically: Christianity. Thus, it’s not so surprising that it has become popular in right-wing media companies, which leads us to today’s story.
Daily Wire+ is proud to announce that they will soon be streaming The Pendragon Cycle: Rise of the Merlin on their streaming platform. This will be a 7-part TV series adaptation of The Pendragon Cycle novel series, featuring Jeremy Boering as the showrunner, and starring Tom Sharp in the leading role as Merlin. This entire series will premiere on January 22, 2026 exclusively on Daily Wire+.
If you’re still unsure that The Pendragon Cycle: Rise of the Merlin is essentially Christian propaganda in Arthurian legend form, then you can check out the synopsis and YouTube trailer below for confirmation.
Synopsis
“THE PENDRAGON CYCLE: RISE OF THE MERLIN is based on the multi-award winning novels written by Stephen R. Lawhead. Recognized as Lawhead’s most acclaimed works, The Pendragon Cycle is a unique retelling of the Arthurian legend, set not in the high Medieval age of knights in shining armor, but in the wake of a Roman-occupied Britain, where the seeds of Christianity are beginning to take root in the face of spiritual and physical darkness. As barbarian invaders threaten to lay claim to the Island of the Mighty, only those with faith in the true God will prevail.”

The Pendragon Cycle: Rise of the Merlin Bringing Christian Propaganda in Arthurian Form on January 22, 2026

To be honest, it doesn’t look like The Pendragon Cycle: Rise of the Merlin will interest anyone save for right-wing male white Christians. There’s barely any female presence in even the trailer, with virtually all the actors being white men, and the entire show hinges on the idea that simply being Christians automatically makes the characters morally and physically superior to their enemies.
Heck, showrunner Jeremy Boering has literally gone on record saying that this show is “the culmination of a 10-year vision to create culture, not just to criticize it. Lawhead’s novels present a visceral, masculine Christianity in a world of conflict and mystery. It isn’t saccharine or clean. In short, it is very much like our world.” in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Yeah, because our world is a world where only male Christians are of any importance. Sure.
Still, if you still wish to see this show, then you just have to head on over to Daily Wire+…that is, when it actually has a website you can go to.
