Dear readers, how in the world is it already December? Our crop of fall 2025 movies are in the endgame now, with just days separating us all from the wonder of both Avatar: Fire and Ash, and the entirety of what 2026 has to offer. But what better time is there for blockbusters, awards hopefuls, and some naughty surprises than in the holiday season? Consider what you’re about to read as a gift that keeps on giving, as we’re proud to announce the start of That Hashtag Show’s Cinema Forecast.

Every month we’re gonna tell you what’s ahead in the near future, and why you should be excited. What’s more, we’ll even be highlighting the Heater and Sleeper of the Month – which are respectively the movies with the most hype, and those that we really want to draw attention to. Now let’s dim the lights, take our seats, and see what December 2025 has in store for the THS Cinema Forecast:

Varang gestures powerfully as she stands over a fire in Avatar: Fire and Ash.

THS’ Heater of the Month – Avatar: Fire And Ash – December 19th

You knew this was coming, folks. Avatar: Fire and Ash is going to be the movie to see this December. While reactions to Avatar 3 have been a bit mixed, the long standing wisdom to “never bet against James Cameron” still carries weight. This is also Avengers: Doomsday’s trailer debut, as our first tease will be attached to this picture. You try telling a Marvel fan they won’t be in their seats for that.

Rohan Campbell stares menacingly as he puts on his Santa beard in Silent Night Deadly Night.

THS’ Sleeper Of The Month: Silent Night, Deadly Night (2025) – December 12th

Writer/director Mike P. Nelson’s reimaging of Silent Night, Deadly Night has a very novel twist that’s bound to turn heads. What’s more, the Rohan Campbell/Ruby Modine led picture is sorta banking on distributor Cineverse’s success with another holiday fright – 2024’s Terrifier 3. That sort of pedigree makes even being released to theaters Unrated feel like walking in a winter wonderland. Be sure to keep this one on your list, as theaters can be shaky on offering such delights.

December 5th

Freddy and Bonnie stand menacingly in a dark hallway in Five Nights at Freddy's 2.

Five Nights At Freddy’s 2

It’s time to go back to Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria, thanks to the arrival of Five Nights at Freddy’s 2! Writer Scott Cawthorn and director Emma Tammi return with another battle between possessed animatronics and the humans standing in their way. Our own Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 review heralds the film as “more gateway[horror] goodness,” so don’t worry too much your kids seeing this one on the big screen (where it belongs).

A blood-soaked Uma Thurman looks up defiantly in Kill Bill: Vol. 1.

Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair

Avatar: Fire and Ash’s run time of 3 hours and 15 minutes may be a franchise record breaker, but it’s not the longest movie that’ll be in theaters in December 2025. Clocking in at 4 hours and 35 minutes, Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is the realization of Quentin Tarantino’s ultimate vision. Don’t worry, there’s a 15 minute intermission; and our Kill Bill review indicates that this epic is time bloody well spent.

December 12th

Emma Mackey passionately stands in mid-speech in an office in Ella McCay,

Ella McCay

Avatar: Fire and Ash will assuredly be casting a shadow over every December release. That reality makes it even more important to remember why Ella McCay is a unique offering. Amidst the blockbuster thrills of December 2025, writer/director James L. Brooks offers a dramedy about politics, family, and the complications that come from either side of that particular aisle.

Wake Up Dead Man: a Knives Out Mystery

Don’t worry Benoit Blanc fans, you still have time to catch Wake Up Dead Man in theaters. For all of the fans loyal to Rian Johnson and Daniel Craig’s whodunnit anthology that don’t have a theater near them playing this twisted tale, worry not. Netflix will be streaming the films as of this day on the calendar – which may seem even more merciful after you read our rave Knives Out 3 review. (We know that’s not the proper title, but the SEO monster sometimes demands sacrifices to draw readers.)

December 19th

Will Arnett stands at the mic with a forlorn look in Is This Thing On.

Is This Thing On?

In life, there are situations that leave you unable to decide whether you should laugh, cry, or somehow mix the two together. Writer/director Bradley Cooper’s Is This Thing On? navigates such a time in the lives of Alex (Will Arnett) and Tess (Laura Dern), a couple on the brink of divorce. As Alex embarks on a career in stand-up comedy to cope, their shared world becomes a bit funnier, despite sadness waiting around every corner. So if you find yourself sold out of Avatar: Fire and Ash’s opening weekend, consider this a worthy alternative.

Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried stare each other down across a living room in The Housemaid.

The Housemaid

Speaking of Avatar: Fire and Ash, Oona Chaplin’s antagonist Varang is going to leave quite the impression on folks looking for a good villain. However, Paul Feig’s adaptation of The Housemaid is going to give the picture some stiff competition in that very category. Thanks to Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney matching wits in this psychological thriller, there’s plenty of room in the conversation over which December 2025 baddie poses the greatest threat.

Timothee Chalamet runs frantically through a crowd in Marty Supreme.

Marty Supreme

Josh Safdie. Timothée Chalamet. Intense table tennis. What more do you need to know, outside of what THS’ Marty Supreme review has to offer? Well, there’s some early buzz calling it the best movie of 2025. Also, the unconventional marketing campaign (complete with a very real blimp stunt) is something that’s even caught the eye of folks outside of the A24 hive. If anything, you owe it to yourself to see if the hype pays off. So maybe pencil this one in on the same day as Avatar: Fire and Ash, and pit the films your own 2025 Hype Off. Just a suggestion.

December 25th

Paul Rudd looks at an angry Jack Black with worry in Anaconda.

Anaconda

Everyone has a story about those holiday hugs that turned out to be just a little too tight. If that sounds familiar, then you should probably consider co-writer/director Tom Gormican’s revamp of Anaconda as an early winter treat. Centered around the story of how best friends Doug (Jack Black) and Ronald (Paul Rudd) set out to remake their favorite ‘90s movie, an actual killer snake adds some unexpected trauma to this bonding experience.

That story feels like an unexpected cross between Jurassic Park and Tropic Thunder; which is probably the last thing anyone expected from an Anaconda reboot. December 2025 is a month full of excitement at the movies, with viewers able to make the season bright – despite the shorter span of sunlight. With that in mind, always be sure to check your local listings before heading out.

Also, don’t forget to tell us what your Heaters and Sleepers are in the comments below – especially if your opinion on Avatar: Fire and Ash differs from ours. Who doesn’t love a heated debate during the holidays that doesn’t involve blood relatives?
