With a mythic history as a cable TV trailblazer in the books, HBO’s promising 2026 lineup of originals has only just begun. However, the legacy network’s collection of streaming/TV debuts continues to impress as well. What might be the finest example of that power is the relationship between Marty Supreme studio A24 and HBO – which has just been freshly renewed.
That means we now know where Timothée Chalamet’s Golden Globe winning performance will be streaming. Though the existing relationship makes this news an obvious fit, the bonkers alternate ending co-writer/director Josh Safdie originally had in mind gives this announcement even more of a delicious bite.

Marty Supreme, And Other A24 Films, Will Continue To Head To HBO Max
For the past year HBO Max has been the streaming home of the studio that brought us Uncut Gems and other anxiety inducing hits. Apparently that deal was quite beneficial to both sides, which led to the recent renewal announced, per an official press release. Discussing the matter further, Executive Vice President of Global Content Acquisitions Royce Battleman had this to say:
A24 has been an incredible partner, bringing a slate of talented creative voices and an engaged audience base to the platform. Their bold storytelling perfectly complements the distinct programming offered on HBO Max.
That statement isn’t just a polite business platitude, as it actually has one particular statistic to back it up. Apparently 70% of subscribers who watched one A24 movie on HBO Max were reported to have then ventured onto “an average of four titles from the studio.”
With a 2026 slate that includes Robert Pattinson and Zendaya’s marital woes in The Drama and Glen Powell’s dark comedy How to Make a Killing (among others) HBO Max subscribers are in for a hell of a year. Though if Marty Supreme had kept its crazy, and dare I say supernatural ending, it could have led more viewers to check out True Blood in the process.

Josh Safdie Revealed A Totally Mad Alternate Ending Involving…Vampires?
I’ll side step any sort of spoilers here, considering that Mr. Safdie’s ping pong extravaganza is still showing in theaters. However, talking about an ending that never came to pass doesn’t seem like it’d ruin anything – especially when it was a concept so wild that even the A24 brass didn’t buy it.
During an interview with the A24 Podcast, Josh Safdie revealed to Anora director Sean Baker that Marty Supreme co-star Kevin O’Leary came up with the idea that his character was, indeed, a vampire. Going over the script and character with Safdie and co-writer Ronald Bronstein, the Shark Tank star threw a curveball that went so far it almost closed the movie out with an older Marty at a Tears for Fears concert. Which then lead to this scenario:
… Mr. Wonderful shows up behind him and takes a bite out of his neck, and that was the last image.
Like a bloodsucker at a garlic parade, A24 didn’t bite; which is a shame. However judging by our Marty Supreme review, as well as the tide of reactions from critics and fans alike, it sounds like the finished product didn’t lose its metaphorical fangs.
Those curious to see how this all plays out can currently see Marty Supreme in theaters – with an eventual HBO Max debut set for an unknown date in 2026. As for any boost in True Blood streaming, perhaps the eventual arrival of Alexander Skarsgård’s dark rom-com Pillion will be that legacy HBO franchise’s moment in the sun.
