Disney just greenlit Zombies 5 after the blockbuster success of Zombies Four: Dawn of the Vampires. Today, the company announced that Malachi Barton and Freya Skye are back as Victor and Nova in a new entry for Disney+ and Disney Channel. We don’t have details on a release date yet, but the green light seem to suggest that more news will be coming soon.

 Milo Mannheim and Meg Donnelly are back as executive producers. Trevor Tordjman is returning as Bucky. (He’s Addison from the original trilogy’s cousin!) In addition, production on Zombies 5 begins this spring.

“‘ZOMBIES’ has become a defining franchise for the current generation,” Ayo Davis, president, Disney Branded Television said. “With each movie, we intentionally push the story somewhere new. Introducing mermaids in ‘ZOMBIES 5’ opens up a completely different dynamic, while staying true to the music, characters and themes of unity and acceptance that are at the heart of these films.

What’s coming in Zombies 5?

 After the Vampires last time out, Zombies 5 is set to tackle mermaid arrivals to Rayburn. Their siren song is hoping to recruit new allies. And, that means that Nova and Victor are looking to reunite their groups and discover what these mermaids are really after.

Joining Barton and Sky in Zombies 5 are Swayam Bhatia as Vera, Julian Lerner as Ray, and Mekonnen Knife as Vargas. Newcomers to the franchise include Diaana Babnicova as cool-girl Pearl, Taylor Oliver as bad-boy Fin, and Olive Mortimer as tech-wiz Sandy. Another zombie joins the adventure with Zed’s cousin Izzy played by Emily Costtrici.

Paul Hoen is back in the fold as director and executive producer.  It’s easy to see why Disney didn’t want to break up a successful team. The Zombies franchise is one of the most popular Disney Channel Original movie franchises in the long-running category’s history. Cable premieres for the first three films ranked number one among kids 6-11 & 9-14. Then, one look at the 385 million hours watched across linear and streaming, and it’s easy to see how Zombies 5 is coming out.
