The world of Game of Thrones is heading to the big screen. Warner Bros. is developing a movie from writer Beau Willimon, who’s written for Andor and House of Cards. The Hollywood Reporter’s cover story on George R.R. Martin teased the idea of a movie coming from Warner Bros. and a TV show based on the same story of King Aegon I Targaryen’s conquest of Westeros.

Now, this news comes at a strange time for Warner Bros. because of their looming merger with Paramount. Any project in development could end at any time because of cuts. Paramount seemingly sees that Game of Thrones is an important piece of this acquisition, so this project could be safe. HBO has plenty of prequels and sequel series in the chamber for the show as well, particularly shows focusing on Jon Snow or Arya Stark.

This isn’t the first time that a Thrones movie has been discussed, the original plan for the show was to end it with three feature films, but HBO balked at that idea. They wanted to keep with their core subscription business over the theatrical business. HBO already has two shows on the air right now for Game of Thrones including House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Both are already onto a second season, and House of the Dragon is heading for a third season.
