NEON, the original distributor for Longlegs, the horror sensation of 2024, is not on board for a new movie in that universe. Instead, Osgood Perkins and Nic Cage will take their talents to Paramount for the new mystery Longlegs project. The Hollywood Reporter was first with the news about the sequel/expansion of the highest-grossing independent film of the past decade.
Osgood Perkins is attached to write, direct, and produce the film with Nicolas Cage on board to star and produce as well. Also on board as producers are Brian Kavanaugh Jones of Range Media, Chris Ferguson of Phobos, and Dave Caplan of C2, who financed the original movie.
Although this project is incredibly secretive, this is not a sequel to Longlegs, but another movie from that universe. The original film starred Maika Monroe and Nicolas Cage. Cage played the titular killer, in one of the best performances in his long career. The film earned $128 million at the box office on a budget of less than $10 million.
NEON apparently passed on this new film because the budget went past their scope and normal parameters. Paramount has been building out a nice range of horror movies in recent years and they’re banking on this being another in a long line of hits like Scream (2022), Scream VI, Scream 7, Smile, and their upcoming Paranormal Activity sequel.
We’ll keep you updated on all things Longlegs as we get more news.
